September is Hunger Action Month, and as such C2’s CommunityConnect group gathered at Shelburne Orchards to support Pick for Your Neighbor.

The program benefits the Vermont Foodbank by increasing the amount of fresh, healthy produce available at partner food shelves and meal sites throughout the state, while helping increase business for local orchards.

In 2015, Pick for Your Neighbor provided 18,000 pounds of locally grown, fresh-picked apples to Vermonters in need and they hope to surpass this amount in 2016.

The program runs at 17 participating Vermont orchards from Sept. 1 to Oct. 10. Individuals, civic groups and companies can pick and purchase extra apples for donation to the Foodbank.
